        Advised Planning Timeline for Seniors Planning for College

September

  • Begin making college contacts for visits and application materials.
  • Start a file for each college that you are interested in and/or plan to apply.
  • Register for any ACT or SAT that need to be taken or retaken, packets and dates are in the guidance office. Have the results sent to the colleges that you are considering.
  • Talk to the college admissions people that come to LCC.

October

  • Continue to talk to college representatives that come to LCC, there is a calendar of colleges visiting in the main hallway.
  • Register for any ACT or SAT test that need to be taken or retaken, have the results sent to the schools you are considering.
  • Attend College Fairs in the area.
  • Make College Visits.
  • Begin submitting applications. Check with individual schools on deadlines for Early Decision. This varies from school to school.

November

  • If still undecided, continue to plan college visits.
  • Finalize applications, be sure to pay close attention to deadlines for individual schools.
  • Register for any needed taking or retaking of the ACT, SAT or SAT II
  • Applications should be in the guidance office by Thanksgiving.

December

  • If you have not turned in applications for college, you need to do that NOW!

January

  • Gather family financial records for financial aid forms.
  • Pick up FAFSA forms from the Guidance Office, complete and send to the College Scholarship service as soon as possible after January 1st.
  • If you have not made final decisions on college plans make a visit to help in the decision making process.

March/April/May

  • Review College acceptances and financial aid packages.
  • Be sure to pay attention to deadlines concerning your enrollment and housing.
